Stakeholders Conduct Pre-Launch Visit to Karuma Falls Hydropower Plant Ahead of Tourism Product Launch
The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), in partnership with the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL), today conducted a Stakeholder Pre-Launch Visit to the Karuma Falls Hydropower Plant as part of preparations for the official launch of the hydropower tourism product scheduled for the end of March.
The visit brought together key stakeholders involved in the development and promotion of the product, including representatives from UTB and UEGCL, the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA), members of the Association of Uganda Tour Operators (AUTO), and leadership from Kiryandongo District. District officials in attendance included the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the LCV Chairperson, the Secretary for Finance, and the District Commercial Officer (DCO).
The engagement focused on validating the site’s readiness to receive visitors, with particular attention given to safety standards, visitor flow management, and the overall visitor experience. Stakeholders conducted on-site assessments to ensure that operational arrangements align with tourism best practices and meet the expectations of both domestic and international visitors.
Discussions also centered on product positioning and operational considerations, ensuring that the hydropower tourism experience at Karuma Falls is well-integrated into Uganda’s broader tourism offering while maintaining the integrity of the power generation facility and its surrounding environment.
Collaborative Feedback and Final Refinements
The visit provided an opportunity for open engagement among stakeholders, allowing for the exchange of practical insights and recommendations. Valuable on-site feedback was shared to guide final refinements of the product ahead of its official launch.
This collaborative approach underscores the commitment of UTB, UEGCL, and partners to delivering a safe, well-curated, and distinctive tourism experience that showcases Uganda’s infrastructure development alongside its natural attractions.
The official launch of the Karuma Falls Hydropower Tourism Product is expected to take place at the end of March, marking an important milestone in the diversification of Uganda’s tourism portfolio.
