Uganda has once again earned global acclaim after Bwindi Impenetrable National Park was ranked the third best adventure destination in the world at the prestigious TOURISE Global Tourism Awards held in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Bwindi placed third globally, following Ancash (Peru) and the Galápagos Islands (Ecuador), securing Uganda’s position among the world’s premier adventure destinations celebrated for their breathtaking landscapes, rich biodiversity, and commitment to sustainable tourism.
A Win for Conservation and Adventure Tourism
Speaking at the event, Professor James Kalema, Chairman of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Board of Trustees, praised the recognition as a testament to Uganda’s global leadership in conservation and adventure tourism.
“This accolade is a powerful endorsement of Uganda’s commitment to conservation-led tourism. Bwindi demonstrates how protecting nature can create meaningful adventure experiences while empowering communities and sustaining national development,”
— Prof. Kalema
Celebrating Excellence in Global Tourism
The TOURISE Global Tourism Awards celebrate destinations that excel in innovation, sustainability, and exceptional visitor experience. The event brings together policymakers, tourism leaders, and international authorities to spotlight models that benefit both people and the planet.
Why Bwindi Stands Out
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is globally renowned for its dramatic mist-covered landscape, ancient rainforest, and its population of mountain gorillas—home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas.
The park offers one of the most profound adventure experiences worldwide through gorilla trekking, attracting thousands of high-value visitors every year. Revenue from tourism directly supports conservation efforts and uplifts local communities living around the park.
Commitment to Sustainable Tourism
Reacting to the announcement, UWA Executive Director, Dr. James Musinguzi, applauded the teams behind Uganda’s conservation success.
“This global ranking is an inspiration to all of us who work daily to protect Uganda’s natural treasures. It proves that our model of conservation-based tourism is delivering results—conserving biodiversity, uplifting communities, and strengthening Uganda’s global image as the Pearl of Africa,”
— Dr. Musinguzi
Uganda’s Growing Global Tourism Presence
Uganda’s participation at TOURISE 2025 reinforces the country’s growing influence among leading global tourism destinations. Bwindi’s international recognition is expected to boost Uganda’s visibility, attract more adventure travellers, and strengthen UWA’s continued efforts in promoting sustainable tourism.
