A high-level Uganda delegation led by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities (MTWA), Doreen Katusiime, together with Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa, UTB Board Chairperson Pearl Hoareau Kakooza, and staff from UTB and the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF), has concluded a successful participation at the TECA World Agro-Tourism Conference in Scotland.
Uganda’s engagement at the global conference was aimed at strategically benchmarking world-class hospitality models, strengthening global tourism cooperation, and diversifying the country’s tourism products to incorporate Agro-Tourism. The participation also formed part of Uganda’s preparations to host the 2029 edition of the conference, offering the delegation an opportunity to build the capacity and insight needed to deliver a world-class edition on home soil.
The delegation’s activities included experiential learning tours across farms in Aberdeen and Edinburgh, offering first-hand exposure to established Agro-Tourism models. Uganda also took part in exhibitions, showcasing premium Agro-Tourism products that captured travel interest from the global audience in attendance. In addition, delegates participated in high-level seminar sessions that equipped them richly on sustainable, community-led tourism initiatives and development, providing valuable lessons for Uganda’s own tourism diversification agenda.
Uganda’s participation at the TECA World Agro-Tourism Conference reflects a deliberate push to broaden the country’s tourism offering beyond traditional wildlife and adventure experiences into Agro-Tourism, while deepening cooperation with global partners in the sector. The exposure gained in Scotland is expected to inform Uganda’s strategy for community-led, sustainable tourism development, and to strengthen the country’s readiness to host the world in 2029.
