Uganda has successfully hosted the inaugural African Dragon Boat Racing Competition on Lake Victoria in Kawuku, Wakiso, bringing together teams and participants from across Africa and beyond.
The competition attracted teams from Uganda, Egypt, Kenya and South Africa, alongside participants from Singapore and Hong Kong, creating a vibrant platform for sporting excellence, cultural exchange and international engagement.
The event highlighted the strong China–Africa people-to-people relationship and demonstrated the growing role of sport in promoting tourism, cultural understanding, investment, and international cooperation.
Government commended the organisers for bringing the competition to Uganda and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the development and growth of dragon boat racing in the country.
The African Dragon Boat Federation also identified Uganda as a potential future hub for dragon boat activities in Africa, recognising the country’s strategic location, natural water resources and growing capacity to host international sporting events.
Hosted on the shores of Lake Victoria, the competition further showcased Uganda’s potential to leverage water-based sports as a catalyst for tourism development, destination promotion and stronger international partnerships.
