The Board of Directors and Management of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) today paid a courtesy visit to the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI) in Jinja, reaffirming their commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that enhance the quality and competitiveness of Uganda’s tourism and hospitality sector.
The visit aimed to assess the progress of UHTTI’s infrastructural developments, understand the quality of training being offered, and explore opportunities for collaboration that would contribute to raising service standards across the industry.
The UTB delegation was warmly received by UHTTI’s leadership, led by Principal Richard Kawere. He took the team on a guided tour of the institute’s newly upgraded training facilities, showcasing state-of-the-art equipment and learning spaces designed to match international hospitality training standards.
Following the tour, the UHTTI management delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining the institute’s mandate, strategic goals, and key focus areas. These included curriculum development aligned with global industry benchmarks, partnerships with regional and international institutions, student enrollment trends, graduate success stories, and current operational challenges.
UTB commended the institute for its commitment to excellence and the modern facilities in place, noting their critical role in developing a skilled workforce to support Uganda’s growing tourism industry. The Board emphasized the importance of practical training and encouraged UHTTI to strengthen linkages with hoteliers and other industry players to facilitate job placements for graduates.
The visit concluded with a shared understanding of the need to deepen collaboration between UTB and UHTTI, particularly in areas such as training support, internship opportunities, and joint initiatives that promote professionalism and service excellence.
As part of their visit to Jinja, the UTB team also made a stop at the Source of the Nile to assess the ongoing development works aimed at enhancing the site’s appeal as a major tourism attraction.
This engagement reflects UTB’s broader vision to build a robust and competitive tourism ecosystem by supporting institutions that are at the forefront of capacity building and service delivery in Uganda’s tourism and hospitality sector.
