The Nyakagezi Gorilla Group in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park (MGNP) welcomed a new addition on 15 November 2025. The infant was born to Cyizanye, an adult female in the group, marking her second birth after her first offspring, Tulambule, born in 2016.
This new birth brings the Nyakagezi family size to 11 individuals and provides a positive boost to the group’s genetic diversity—helping to dispel concerns about a limited gene pool and supporting healthier long-term population growth.
Mgahinga Gorilla National Park continues to be a vital sanctuary for mountain gorillas, and this latest birth is a promising sign for conservation efforts.
