UTB CONDUCTS CAPACITY-BUILDING TRAINING FOR HOTELIERS IN THE ALBERTINE REGION

The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), through its Quality Assurance Team, has commenced a comprehensive training programme for directors, managers, and staff of tourism accommodation facilities across the Albertine region, including Hoima, Buliisa, Kikuube, Kagadi, and Masindi.

The training, currently underway at Golden Castle Hotel in Hoima, focuses on equipping hospitality establishments with the knowledge and skills required to meet the expected minimum standards for tourism accommodation, as well as UTB’s national grading and classification criteria.

This initiative is part of UTB’s broader effort to enhance service quality, strengthen institutional capacity, and prepare the region for major upcoming opportunities, most notably AFCON 2027, which Uganda will co-host. As tourism numbers and demand for accommodation are expected to rise, the training ensures that facilities are better positioned to meet international expectations and deliver exceptional guest experiences.

Participants also received guidance from officials of the Uganda Development Bank (UDB), who briefed accommodation operators on the procedures, requirements, and financing options available to them. This support is intended to help stakeholders upgrade or expand their facilities in readiness for the anticipated influx of visitors ahead of AFCON 2027.

The ongoing training underscores UTB’s commitment to working closely with industry players to improve standards, strengthen competitiveness, and ensure that Uganda’s tourism sector is well-prepared for both current and future opportunities.
