Kampala, Uganda — Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa officially flagged off the 8th Edition of the Great African Cycling Safari (GACS) at the iconic Independence Monument in Kampala. The flag-off marked the start of a 55-day, 6,000-kilometer cycling journey across five East African countries: Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, and Kenya.

Organized by the Pan African Federalist Movement in collaboration with the EAC Great Africa Cycling Safari, this year’s edition is championing a powerful regional message focused on peace, integration, environmental conservation, and food security.

While officiating the ceremony, Ms. Kagwa commended the organizers and cyclists for using sport as a platform to promote East African unity, cultural exchange, and sustainable tourism. She emphasized Uganda’s continued commitment to fostering regional collaboration through tourism and people-to-people connections.

“This journey is not just about cycling—it is a moving campaign for unity, resilience, and the shared vision of a prosperous East Africa,” she remarked.

As the cyclists journey through the region, they will visit key tourist sites and engage with local communities, raising awareness around environmental stewardship, regional integration, and inclusive development.

Uganda is proud to serve as the starting point for this Pan-African adventure—an event that continues to grow as a powerful symbol of the region’s potential as a unified tourism and socio-economic destination.
