UGANDA TOURISM BOARD RENEWS ITS FOCUS ON MOUNTAIN TOURISM AS AJAROVA LEADS FACT-FINDING HIKING EXPEDITION TO THE TOP OF MT. RWENZORI

KAMPALA, Uganda. December 28th 2020: In an effort to revamp mountain tourism in Uganda, UTB CEO, Lilly Ajarova, led a team of hikers on a 7-day fact-finding hike to Margherita Peak, Mt. Rwenzori's highest point measuring 5,109 metres (16,762 ft)) tall. 

 

IF WE CAN’T DO TOURISM FOR NOW, LET’S AT LEAST TALK TOURISM

In my opening address at this year’s 5th Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE) held in February, under the theme- Promoting Intra-African Travel, I told stakeholders that for Uganda to have a sustainable tourism sector, there was a need for us to rethink our tourism market with more focus on Africa and Uganda. Fast forward, around March, a month after POATE, Covid-19 spread across the world. Overnight, the tourism sector and economies across the world came to a halt.  

 

UGANDA GEARS UP FOR PEARL OF AFRICA TOURISM EXPO; LOCAL AND REGIONAL EXHIBITORS CALLED TO REGISTER

Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) is set to host the 5th annual Pearl of Africa Tourism Expo (POATE 2020); a tourism and travel trade exhibition which brings together regional and international tour operators, travel agents, destination marketing agencies and various players in the tourism trade to network and facilitate tourism business. The three day expo will run from 4-6 February 2020 and will be held at the Speke Resort in Munyonyo, Kampala.

BOLLYWOOD STARS, TOUR AGENTS MARVEL AT UGANDA ATTRACTIONS

Kampala, March 4, 2019 – Having successfully completed an eight day tour of Uganda, a delegation from India comprising Bollywood stars and members of Travel Agents of India (TAFI) has today, Monday March 4, 2019 flown out, full of praise for the country’s rich and numerous attractions.

The group, led by Bharat Dabholkar, a distinguished film director, actor, writer and advertising guru, arrived in the country on Wednesday February 28, 2019 and almost immediately flew out to Kidepo National Park.

NEW UTB CEO, DEPUTY ASSUME OFFICE

Kampala, Uganda. March 6, 2019 – Following the recent announcement of managerial changes at Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), the new Chief Executive Officer, Lilly Ajarova and Deputy Bradford Ochieng have officially assumed office.

Ajarova, who replaces Stephen Asiimwe, was until recently the Executive Director at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust. Ochieng who replaces John Ssempebwa has hitherto served as the Director of Corporate Affairs at Public Procurement and Disposal of Public Assets Authority (PPDA).

UGANDA HOSTS IAAF WORLD CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS 2017 IN KAMPALA

KAMPALA, UGANDA – Uganda is hosting the IAAF World Cross Country Championships Kampala 2017 this Sunday 26th March 2017 at the Independence Grounds in Kololo an upscale Kampala suburb.

The local organizing committee has already put in place an official information sharing platform. These are the website iaafkampala2017.org, together with the Twitter, Facebook and Instagram social media accounts.

“We are hosting an international event and we would like to interact with the world,” Ugandan State Minister for Sport and LOC Chairman Charles Bakkabulindi has said.

UK GOVERNMENT GIVES BRITISH CITIZENS GREEN LIGHT TO TRAVEL ALL AROUND UGANDA – PRESS RELEASE

KAMPALA, 17 October 2017 – British citizens have gotten the green light to travel to all parts of Uganda after the UK government today, Monday 17 October, put the advisory to the lowest level.

“We have reduced our travel advice to the lowest level ‘check travel advice before you go’ (green). This means we no longer have restrictions on travel to any part of Uganda”

PRESS RELEASE: AFRICAN BIRDING EXPO TO HOST WORLD'S BIRD ENTHUSIASTS

KAMPALA, UGANDA – The Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) in collaboration with Competitiveness and Enterprise Development Project (CEDP) under the World Bank is launching the inaugural “African Birding Expo (ABE)” on Saturday 4th 2016. The expo, the first of its kind will be held at the Entebbe Botanical Gardens from the 18- 21 November 2016.

“Uganda is recognized as one of Africa’s premier birding destinations with 1000 bird species. About 10% of the world’s total bird variety and more than 50% of Africa’s bird species,” says Mr. Asiimwe Stephen, the CEO of UTB.
